welcome to the McKee-Peek House!
Described as a Victorian Italianate cottage, the residence was originally built as a Victorian home in 1873
by Jason Carey, an Indianapolis barrel maker.
Gen. William McKee of the Indiana National Guard later purchased the home. General McKee was a brother-in-law
to the daughter of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison, whose home and presidential museum are nearby.
The McKee-Peek House is owned by Michael and Deborah Peek. They have restored the house to its present grandeur
with Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper, authentic gas-light sconces and crystal gas chandeliers, and original hardwood floors
and trim throughout their home. Michael and Deborah Peek live here with their family. The third floor is an ideal space for
in-laws quarters, teenagers, or an apartment. Two years ago it was leased for $675 per month.
The property is in a Historic District - The Old Northside, and is zoned multi-family and can be used for
light office. In 1997, the work by Mr. Peek and the Old Northside neighbors in installing historic street lights throughout
the neighborhood culminated in the presentation of the Historic Preservation Award by the Historic Landmarks Foundation of
Indiana.
